Travels at home and abroad

Created by Heather 3 years ago

Like her distant ancestors, Joyce loved to travel. She went to Ireland and Austria with her daughter, Heather, and to Germany and Austria with a community group from her local town. In her later years, Heather and Graham took her on holiday whenever they could. She travelled to Chicago, Tenerife, Ibiza, Majorca and mainland Spain.

In France, Joyce went with her daughter and son-in-law to see her birth grandfather’s war grave near Arras. She had always wanted to go on a cruise, so when in her 90's, Heather and Graham went with her to Norway, which she loved.

There were also numerous holidays within the UK. Joyce loved nothing more than a visit to a National Trust garden or to the sea, preferably fuelled by hot chocolate and homemade cake. Even when her mobility became very poor and she was using a wheelchair all the time, which she hated, Mother never passed up the chance to visit Miles’s tea shop in Taunton, or go for a drive over the moors. With her family, Joyce travelled to Scotland, Norfolk, Suffolk, Kent, Devon, Cornwall, Yorkshire and Northumberland.
