We think it was towards the end of the War that Joyce met William John (Bill) Baker. He was a Flight Sergeant based at RAF Swingate on the cliffs above Dover. They met at the Sugarloaf Cafe in the town. Bill was from North Tawton in Devon and he was a radar engineer who had been based all over the UK and Iceland, helping to set up Chain Home radar installations. They were together for the next 33 years, separated only by his death in February 1978.
